The Home of Rathbone brings together the work of artist Patsy Rathbone. Patsy makes handmade, bespoke wallpaper and fabric prints. Her repeat patterns combine beautiful drawn imagery with surprising motifs. ‘I like to put the unexpected into my designs, the prints function as repeat designs forming a pattern on the wall but there’s always more to behold on closer inspection’.
Patsy studied her Fine Art Degree and Masters as a mature student with three small children at home. The combination of housewife, mother and artist led her to explore the concept of art made on the kitchen table using her home surroundings as inspiration. Home become an overriding theme to her work, as a place to make and experience art, culminating in the production of hand made wallpaper using silk screen printing process. Patsy’s production space has since moved off kitchen table and into her studio, where she draws, paints and prints her bespoke prints.
The designs always begin with a theme, be that a place, a personal moment, a collection of photos or a favourite flower. Drawing is a basis for all her work and the designs always begin as drawn images or paintings on paper. Selected drawings are scanned and digitally reworked to create beautiful repeat patterns, the original imagery becoming the basis for a pattern as complex as it is surprising. Prints are either hand screen printed or digitally on a laser printer.
Working with you, Patsy will create something that is uniquely yours, turning your home into a work of art.
